drum, baby, drum…

so jasper has fallen in love with this drum i got her at that consignment sale…it is a leapfrog learning drum that, when you hit it, makes noise, counts, says the alphabet and generally drives jon crazy…it is, in fact, outlawed from being played in his presence…i was WARNED ūüôā

she really seems to like pounding on it and the neat thing is that it doesn’t matter where you hit it (on the bottom, side, edge or top), it still does what it is supposed to…which is good cuz she rarely hits it on the top…so there you go, a noise making, battery eating toy that i am glad i got for her…you can say i told you so…

before i was even pregnant, arnetta gave jon his tiny little silver belled thai anklet that he wore when he was a wee one in thailand…we put it on her the other day and, lo and behold, it fit!! so it is her bit of bling…i took the bell off cuz it was only hanging on by a thin wire and, well, that was a bell waiting to be swallowed…but the anklet looks very cool on her and i really get a kick out of seeing it on her and knowing that jon wore it when he was that size too…circles within circles…life is good…

we got her these most awesome leather sandals – now, i know not everyone will appreciate these, but trust me when i say these are COOL!! they are from 6 to 12 months and very big on her so they should last quite a while…i am unsure how the white will stand up but it isn’t like she will be walking in any mud puddles so we are good for now ūüėČ

oh, and this sieve (also from arnetta) has got to be one of the most useful kitchen utensils i never realized i needed…i use it mainly to mash her baby food and i have decided that it is retro in the best possible way…thanks, arnetta!!

another day at the zoo…

jasper lilith and i took papa to the zoo today – another gorgeous bit of weather that could not have been better…jon took a 1/2 day yesterday to go¬†but it rained us out so we had to wait until today…luckily, the weather cooperated…we had a great time showing him all our favorite spots and animals including the flamingos, all the ducks and the always exciting bird aviary…

we strolled around and had a picnic – just had a relaxing, meandering day despite all the people there…i am so glad that we purchased those zoo memberships!! jasper definitely seems to be feeling better – she is acting more like herself – so the antibiotics must have kicked in…

now that we have¬†jasper lilith, i have really being paying attention to all the places that we can take her and go around here and with it being springtime now, well, there is plenty to do!!¬† we have¬†scarborough faire that will be opening soon and i can’t wait to take her!!¬† i want to get her some of those really darling fairy wings but i am trying to decide if she is too young…she probably is…but it is tempting none the less ūüėČ

plus the spring festival at the botanical gardens and all the art festivals!!¬† whew!!¬† our weekends are packed ūüôā

there’s an ear in my beard…

welp, the little one has her 1st ear infection ūüė¶

she has been acting¬†the wild one lately with baby tantrums and such and¬†everybody¬†was saying that¬†it is just teething but i started to¬†get a bit¬†worried¬†about an ear infection anyway…a friend of mine was telling me that her baby never showed any¬†of the normal symptoms, she could only tell¬†by her behavior and i thought, well, if one baby is like that, than another baby (like mine!) could be like that too…so despite her not having any fever or pulling at her ears or any of the other¬†classic signs and despite the NURSE telling me to not bother making an¬†appointment,¬†she said, “it is just teething…”, i made an appointment anyway…and almost canceled twice, thinking that i was just going to be wasting money on the dr. telling me what everyone else was…but,¬†yup,¬†her left ear was infected…i asked about the no symptoms and she said that it isnt common not to show any of the signs but¬†she probably does have a low-grade fever that just doesnt register on the thermometer…so we have her on antibiotics and hopefully, i will have my happy¬†baby¬†back…and i am very very¬†glad that i went ahead and kept the appt!!

by no means did i want her to have¬†an infection,¬†but i am a bit relieved that¬†her recent behavior was due to¬†something that i can¬†DO something about…i would have to say that this is a good story about “trusting your instincts” as a
mother…

divine consign

a friend of mine let me in on one of the metroplexes best known secrets – a biannual consignment event that happens in the spring and the fall…i registered as a first time mom and was able to get in before it opened to the public so i got some great deals on some very cool things…toys, summer clothes, swim stuff and other misc. things…it was in the arlington convention center in one of their huge suites – i should have taken a picture to post –¬†rows and rows of tables and clothes racks filled to the brim with goodies…and probably a couple of hundred moms digging through it all – just got back in fact and i am thrilled with all the stuff i got for piddly!!¬† now i am about to go start detagging and such…

one of my finds were a couple of classical music and lullaby cds¬†and i have the mozart one playing for¬†the restless jasper¬†right now –¬†i can¬†hear that she is still awake but she¬†must just be listening and zoning out cuz she is very calm and quiet…hey, what do you know?¬† it works!!

rub a dub dub…

today was a house day – gorgeous weather but we just hung out at the house in our pajamas…very nice!! we did have all our windows opened though – in fact, the weather has been so nice, i don’t think i have shut them in about a month…won’t be long before we are turning on the a/c…anyway, one of the things we did was play in the tub – jasper lilith enjoyed floating around, trying to eat the water faucet and gobbling at her toys…the red horned devil duck was her favorite today…she and papa had fun and i had just as much fun watching them and snapping pictures…she did a face plant into the water but didn’t seem to mind too much…we have a little water baby on our hands, for sure!!

ebony and ivory…

well, jasper has a tooth coming in…two actually…one has already broken the surface and one is sitting right underneath – i can see it through her skin, it is so close…she is not a happy camper, of course…our little smiling happy chickie is being a grumpmeister…she doesn’t want to do much but be held and even then she isn’t really happy, she just isn’t fussing…i am trying baby orajel but it is some kind of hard to get it actually ON the spot and not just all over her lips and tongue…she won’t keep her head still and honestly, i don’t blame her – that stuff tastes pretty bad…so far she is still sleeping well at night, cross your fingers that she continues to do that!!!

CROSS YOUR FINGERS!!!!!

today we…

we went to the zoo again today and got caught in the spring break rush of too many people!! however, since we were just going to wander around and seeing the animals was not really the plan, well, it wasn’t a big deal…even made for interesting people watching…didn’t stay but a couple of hours and left when it started getting overcast and thundering…made it home just in time before a massive downpour with hail included just dropped on our heads…

and a random bit of nostalgia:¬† mom, recognize the blanket?¬† i saw it slung over her bed as i was about to put her down for a nap and thought i need to get a picture of that to show mom…maybe i should marker in her name right beside mine ūüôā

blooming on the bricks

we had a great weekend in natchitoches…jasper lilith got to see her gram (or gran, i think it might still be up in the air as to which one?) and pop…we strolled around the riverfront at the “blooming on the bricks” event and ate our first snowcone of the season – it was almost 90 degrees!! it is too soon for such warm weather!! jasper let jon and i enjoy crawfish sat. night – pop boiled a huge pot of them and jasper was thoughtful enough to take a long enough nap that we were able to sit out on the porch, watch the sun go down, get messy and eat until our hearts content!! thanks, little jasper!! she has discovered some new noises her mouth can make as well as blowing razzes so we were quite entertained by her conversational skills all weekend long…her repertoire is getting larger – as well as louder! she will be quite the talker, i think…

food processor and more…

so i decided to start making jaspers food from scratch…right now, she eats so little that it is not a cost issue but once she is eating one jar or more at each sitting – well, then the store bought jars will be on the expensive side…so i bought a food processor and a food mill and a bunch of fresh fruits and veggies and went to town!! my kitchen looked like a tornado had hit it and i spend all day – i mean, all day – cooking up things…there were a couple of mistakes and incidents (i ruined a huge papaya) on my part that i will just chalk up as the learning curve but all in all, it went well…

however, it took longer than i thought it would to batch cook, disasters included so i only got through all my orangey veggies and fruits…i will cook all the greenies next week…

the funny thing is that she has obviously gotten used to the store bought stuff – which doesnt have ANY additives but is very very smooth…now she doesnt want to eat veggies that she usually likes cuz they taste different (they are fresh!) and they are textured…she will just have to get reused to it…now i know it would have been best to start her straight out of the box on the homemade purees…oh well, lesson learned ūüôā

lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

jasper lilith, her nana and i all went to the fort worth zoo on monday – it couldn’t have been better weather for it and it was a wonderful day!! we decided that we might have jumped the zoo gun a little since she wasn’t really looking at the animals – too young still…but mom and i had a great time ūüôā

the only part that jasper got excited about and was obviously looking at was this really cool bird aviary that you could walk into – it was filled hundreds of parakeets and cockatiels that had no fear what so ever of us…they were flying all over the place, crawling all over the ground and hopping on peoples shoulders and the railings…since there was so much activity and color and it was all up in her face, jasper could really focus and pay attention and she seemed pretty enthralled…

i went ahead and bought a annual zoo membership for both jon and i…we are close enough to the zoo that it is a place that i could go to during the week instead of the park – lots of activity for her to be surrounded with even if she doesn’t understand what she is seeing yet!

we had a great time!! next time, jasper and i will be taking her papa to see the birds!!
