lighting part deux…

arnetta, we didn’t put the shotgun shell lights on the elk antlers but i couldn’t resist putting them up somewhere!  so they joined the rest of the miscellaneous bits on her red velvet mirror…i had big plans for decorating this mirror that never materialized but i have ended up making a mish mash of neat little nifty things that don’t really fit anywhere else…we are starting quite the collection 🙂

christmas lights, oh my!

i know i usually reserve this blog for jasper happenings only but (!) we put up our christmas lights this afternoon and i love love love when our house is all bright and cheerful looking…so clearly i had to take a picture of the happy, glowey house that jasper lilith lives in 🙂

p.s. it was very cold and i was barefoot and in my pjs when i took this picture…very cold…and the ground was covered in acorns that i kept managing to step on…

aw, her very first space helmet…

another use for a topless drum…who knew?

they are NOT pajamas!

jasper has been sick since monday but yesterday i could tell she was feeling much better and was much less snotty so i took her out for some fresh air…she wanted to be held much more than usual (i was glad to oblige) but still enjoyed running around and taking in the zoo sights…she is getting much more consistant about pointing at certain animals and the impressive part is that she follows up by pointing to the same animals in her books – she clearly has some favorites…the zebras, lions, jaguar (in the book it is a leopard but close enough for now), flamingoes and parakeets are all top notch in her mind right now…

now that the weather has gotten chillier, my zoo people are putting the animals up earlier so we are having to be like mike and get to the zoo earlier so we dont miss them…by the time the zoo is closing, many of the animals are up already…bummer that but it is still nice to just wander the paths without all the people…

jasper tickled me this time around by being a bit of a spelunker…well, the toddler kind, that is…

she saw this deep nook in one of the many rock croppings at the zoo and so of course she ran right towards it…she spend a couple of seconds trying to climb it (surprise, surprise) but then changed her mind and turned around and backed into the little nook…she wiggled her booty until she was pressed into the hole and then just sat there all cozy and comfortable…i just watched her and let her be cozy until she took it upon herself to begin taste testing the various leaves and acorn bits…at that point, the nook time was over and we were off…

she looks so introspective here to me…very “in the moment”…

stuffage…

heather gave jasper lilith a big ol’ purple ball on her birthday and she loves to play with it but about all she can do with it is carry it around and chase it when it escapes her little arms…it is pretty funny watching her carry this ball – almost her entire body is covered so you just see her arms and legs churning underneath it…she can’t see where she is going but the ball acts as a bouncy bumper…

and here is jasper learning the mystical ways of The Swiffer…she likes to push and pull it around – that is right, ladies and gentlemen, i am starting her off right!  although at this point, she really makes more of a mess because she pulls it onto the carpet and the friction pulls all the fuzzies and whatnot right into the carpet…i can see the trail of where she dragged it!  but oh well, one step at a time…may she always love The Swiffer or whatever the futuristic equivilant will be 🙂

shiny!

monday was chilly and a perfect hearth day so jon loaded up the fireplace for our first fire of the year and we enjoyed the warmth and flames the rest of the day…jasper was very well-behaved while the fire was bright and shiny but once jon let it die down and shut the glass doors, she kept climbing up to rub and sit against said glass doors – i guess she liked the feel of the residual warmth in the glass?

jasper lilith learned “HOT!” over the thanksgiving break…we had either fireplaces roaring or pot bellied stoves radiating between all the houses we went to and luckily, she seemed to catch on pretty quick about the not touching rule…i think jon and i are going to fireplace it up this winter so we can really pound in the lesson…oh, the sacrifices we make, right 🙂

thanksgivingness…

well, shame on me!  i had plenty of photo opportunities from thursday on and i missed most of them!  jasper with grandparents, jasper with us, jasper with dogs (oy, all the dogs!), jasper with aunts and uncles, just tons of darling jasper kodak moments that i was too busy to snap…i will make it up at christmas 🙂

we spent thanksgiving day with mom, richard and a house full of family, children and dogs…mom, thank god you bought the bigger house!!  we had a great time with everyone there and jasper had several children close to her age to run around with – and run she did!  she ran around with tigger and heidi (mom’s dogs) like they were her own personal play toys – they were wonderful with her and it was fun watching her love on them…

here is one of our basenjis, roan, wondering what this little person is doing on his bed…or maybe he is licking pumpkin pie off her face…

then we went over to natchitoches for the thanksgiving weekend to visit arnetta, pop, louis and susan (who flew down from virginia)…had a wonderful time there too – again, plenty of photo opportunities long gone…jasper discovered fireplace popcorn and guitars…her uncle louis had her captivated with his guitar playing – she was quite the audience of one, wasn’t she?

the drive home was no fun at all though – she was grumpy, the dogs were grumpy and neither of those things made for a fun trip back…this was jasper at her most peaceful hour…
