big tex…

heather and i took the kiddos to the texas state fair yesterday and other than be a little warmer than usual, it was fun!

we ate foods that had no business being fried (fried grilled cheese!), got sunburned, rode some rides (jasper lilith loved her first kiddie roller coaster!), played some games, wandered around and frolicked in the fountains – if anybody has any doubts, i assure you that the fountains were the definitive highlight of the outing!

they couldn’t climb into this fountain but jasper is thinking about doing it anyway!

the moo cow twins!  i don’t have a picture of the two of them trying to push their heads into the same hole!  they both wanted the same one and i think the silent battle of wills (or would that be a battle of heads?) would have gone on for much longer if heather and i hadn’t pulled our mama cards out and put a stop to it…

aren’t the two girls cute?  this little girl kept trying to play with jasper but jasper was only interested in the water…

and this other little girls ball – jasper was very, very interested in this ball!!  luckily, the fascination of running and water tuned out most of the ball fixation  🙂

she liked to step on the holes that the water was spouting out of…  which would make it spray everywhere and everyone – mainly, it seemed, me

is duncan peeing?  well, no… sheesh…  but he was very excited that it looked like he was peeing!!!

a moment of contemplation…

and contemplative moment over…  back to running and making lots of cute, loud girly noises!

high time for tea…

and here is the jasper lilith lounging on the couch sipping her morning tea…  how old is she again?

we are a hot tea household so it makes sense that jasper is a hot tea gal – she bats her long eyelashes and goes, “tea?  pease?  pease?” (pease = please) and so we make hot tea…

i have always allowed her to sip on my hot tea or coffee but the only tea i let her drink plenty of is a tea that i discovered in south africa  called rooibos tea…  we all love it but she really, really, really (3 reallys worth) loves it especially when i make it milky!  i brought a bunch of bags of it back with me and dad continues to keep me supplied with his annual african trips…  thanks, dad!  oh and we need more oxtail broth, too!!    🙂

she has her favorite jasper-sized mug (actually, it is the only mug i will let her use but don’t tell her that), she steals my spot on the couch, says, “tea!!  tea!!!  ‘ank you!” (‘ank you = thank you) and lingers over her morning cartoons and hot tea…

i mean, seriously, i have to continuously remind myself that this little girl is only 2 years old!  pop, you are right – jasper lilith is an old soul…

little miss frenchie…

jasper lilith was ready to go this morning!  she has her hat, her boots and her panties on – what more does a little girl need to start the day?

and she wanders around the house for the rest of morning like this…  in fact, she did not want to put clothes on when it was time to be out in public 🙂

i know the feeling, sugar…

the hat doesn’t fit her head anymore so she couldn’t pull it down – it just sat on top of her head and kept falling off…  she would go, “uh, oh!”, grab it and put it back on – all morning long!

at the park…

i found these pictures in my draft box and i can’t remember if i posted them or not!  oops…

but they are of a park day…

a game of chase da!  or was that chase jasper lilith?

reading rainbow…

so jasper lilith is an independent little 2 year old – the girl likes her me time!

i have gotten used to her going into her room and doing whatever it is she does in there all by herself – i peek my head around the corner to make sure she is ok (boy, it gets quiet in there sometimes!) ever so often but otherwise let her be – hey, her me time is my me time, too!!  and i try to be careful she doesn’t see me because i don’t want her to feel smothered and also because i get scolded when she sees me checking up on her…  that is right, scolded!   but i figure i am in training as much as she is and it is good for me to remember that everybody, no matter their age, needs alone time!

unless i spy a picture-worthy moment of oh-my-god-isn’t-she-cute!  or a wow-is-this-normal moment… and then all bets are off!

and this would be one of those wow moments:  a bit after her nap, i hear what seems like the entire bookcase being emptied and rush on in (gray hair, anyone?) only to find jasper lilith pulling out a bunch of her books and making a big pile of them on the recliner…  of course, i am thinking, “what in the world is she doing?” so i hang back and just watch her…  she continues to pick out books and add to the pile and then climbs up beside them and starts to read them – one by one!

i find it cute but once she is settled into her spot, i go about my own business…  i keep checking on her every once in a while (got a scolding when she caught me once) and watch the pile of books grow smaller as the pile of “done” books on the floor grows bigger…  every once in a while, she would call me into the room to make an animal noise at me (moo, baa-baa, cock-a-doodle-doo, whatever fits the story she is reading at the time) or show me a picture but then she tells me to “go, mama…”  when she is done with me…  i think she has figured out that i am at her beck and call, hasn’t she?

jasper lilth keeps up the reading for about an hour – can you believe it?  that is a pretty impressive attention span for a two year old!  and she doesn’t come out until she has read all the books in the pile 🙂

and let me tell you, it was a very nice and quiet hour!!  thanks, little monkey!

happy birthday, daddy!!

jon stayed home from work today and what a nice surprise that was! we slept late – jasper lilith let us all stay in bed to almost 9 am (this is unheard of)!!

we had a lazy morning in and then jasper and i left to run some errands and pick up a small coconut cake and birthday balloon for the birthday man…

jasper picked out the balloon and i picked out the cake and both of us forgot to get candles 🙂

the jon and jasper lilith balloon parade!  she directed him up and down the hallway for some time!

and there they go again!  wait, is jon walking like a gooseman?

jasper was very eager to get a piece of that cake and kept saying, “cake! i’cream!” but took it like a trooper when i told her she had to wait until after her nap to have any cake and ice cream…

she took a nice, long nap and woke up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as the saying goes!  i heard her door open and she comes sleepy stumbling out of her room with her arms full of wolf and dog, gives the animals to me and walks over to her daddy with her now-empty arms wide open (this is jasper body speak for “hold me!  pick me up!” ) so, of course, he picks her up and she points her arm at the cake with a little, soft “cake! i’cream!” exclamation around her pacifier…

so we sing happy birthday and eat cake!

so much for jon not having to work today!

she is tickling her daddy’s feet…  he is laughing but trying to get away from her…

happy birthday, jon!  from me and jasper lilith!

video diary entry #1,342 1/2…

you can see that jasper lilith has the forward part down! but she doesn’t like when she picks it up and the wheels are still spinning and turning and trying to eat her! no, she doesn’t like that!
