jasper has been doing very well with her potty training – we are down to just diapers at night, whoop!!!

turns out stickers were the hook i needed to find (candy?  nope…  lollipops?  nope…  jasper-sized potty seat?  no way…) – she knew what to do and what she was supposed to do but she did not like to interrupt her playing around to take the time to go to the bathroom…  i guess it is pretty convenient to just pee while going about your business 🙂

but i mean when the girl brings you a diaper and some wipes and tells you, “mama, i peed!  change diaper, please!” then you know it is time to get serious about the potty training!

she has been peeing and pooing on the toilet for a while now but at her discretion…  i haven’t bothered to enforce the training and get rid of the diapers completely but once i did, i had trouble with getting her to stop what she was doing and go to the bathroom!

“NO, MAMA!  I DON’T WANT TO! “

now throw in some stiff-legged kicking and pitiful crying with some screaming thrown in there for good measure and you have about captured the moment…

that would be what happens when i would ask if she had to go potty and tried to get her to go…  so i tried finding a “hook” that would get her excited but that didn’t work either…

me:  “do you want some potty candy?  go potty and you can have some potty candy!”

jasper:  “no tank you, i don’t want it!  let’s go outside, ok?”

now replace potty candy with several other kid friendly bribery tools and follow with complete disinterest and you pretty much get the picture!

the frustrating thing was that she would go potty on her own initiative sometimes but woe is the mama who tried to get her to go regularly!  and she would go at the child care center at the gym!  they would tell me that she asked to use the potty to pee almost every day!!  so what was i doing wrong?  i mean, you can’t exactly force a child to go potty on command…  can you?

ah, the mama blues…

and we won’t even talk about trying to keep her panties on her little body – let’s just say a snowman in texas had a better chance of lasting year-round than i did keeping her underwear on!

but then!!!  ta-da!!!

the breakthrough came in two parts:  1)  stickers…  turns out that stickers was the hook i needed…  the girl likes stickers and i don’t care if i have to cover her entire body with them to get her to potty in the toilet!!  and 2)  i stopped asking if she has to go and just started swooping her up and plopping her on the toilet!!

and what do you know?  within two days, she was going to the bathroom on her own!  undressing, climbing up on the toilet and doing what she needed to do all by herself!  at this point, sometimes she goes to the bathroom without even saying anything and then sometimes i still have to swoop in and remind her but it is a peaceful transaction now and everybody is happy…

she has her stickers and i am well on my way to a diaperless life…  ohhhhh, so nice…

ok, so anyway on to the cupcakes!

jasper is big on the little cupcake stickers lately so i decided to bake some cupcakes to celebrate her progress (and because i haven’t had cupcakes in forever and well, they just sounded like A Good Idea) so we did…

and they came out very pretty and trust me, they taste even better than they look 🙂

a little almond flavoring in the mix and the frosting adds a very delicate yumminess…
