let’s just pretend fish for now…

jasper lilith finally got a little fishing rod…  she got to pick it out, of course, and though there were not a lot of choices (in kid-sized rods), she went straight for the most girly rod of them all!

soapbox:  man, i get so tired of all that thematic crap out there!  i usually try to avoid the themey stuff but they did not have one children’s fishing rod that was just a rod – they were all disney, barbie, spiderman, batman, bob the builder and more…

sheesh…

she picked the barbie one, by the way 🙂

jasper wanted to go fishing the day we got it for her but she had to wait until the morning to go – poor thing 🙂

jon has been getting up quite early to go fish at our lake and when he rolled out of bed that next morning, jasper climbed right over me and rolled right with him…  don’t even ask what time it was…

jon left to get some fishing in before jasper and we ate breakfast and then met him at the lake…

jaspers rod is small and barbiesque but it is a real fishing rod…  the neat thing is that it came with a little butterfly bobber that we could tie on to the end of the line for her to practice with before adding a real hook and letting her at the fish!

so the morning was spent with jasper throwing the butterfly around…  it was a learning experience for all of us!  jasper learned that the fishing rod is not a toy and we learned that after about 30 minutes jasper is ready to do something else!

well, we saw that coming – i am actually impressed that she can last that long for her age 🙂

luckily, the lake has a playground right by it so she and i divided our time between fishing with daddy and running on the playground…

it was a good day…

and next stop?

hookville!

wind and water…

at the end of another day out and i can’t decide which looks prettier – the waterfalls or the windblown girl…

what do you think?

pretty eyes…

no picture but a little story blurb:

arnetta, you will like this:  this evening we are all hanging out on the couch – reading and such – and jasper lilith leans over to jon, bats her long eyelashes at him and tells him, “daddee, your eyes are sooooo pwetty…” and then gives him this little shy grin to go along with the fluttering eyelashes…  and then she didn’t even try to talk him into anything – seems like it was a totally free compliment!!

well, she ain’t wrong…  the little flirt 🙂

detritus of fishing…

jasper is quite fascinated with the fishing process – the fishing part, the rod part, the reel part, the dead fish part, the jig part, all of it!

so when jon unloaded his tackle box to clean out and purge all the old stuff or broken stuff (have i rubbed off on him or what?), she was right in the thick of it!

“what’cha doing, daddee?”

escape from walden trail…

jasper lilith has been able to open our windows for some time now – unlock them, open them, close them and then lock them back up…  and kind of like when she started using stools to reach the deadbolts (and then became tall enough, yay) on all of our doors and therefore could open the doors?  i don’t like it…  nope, i don’t like it one bit…

our little escape artist is way too comfortable with all of our locking mechanisms to give a parent some peace of mind!

ok, so jasper lilith can open the windows – no surprise, been able to for awhile, but she has always kept to the sanctity of the house – she will unlock and throw open the window (with great panache, by the way) and then just hang out the window to talk to her doggies or just enjoy the breeze…  ok, i can take that, i guess…

until this week…  this week, i walk into the living room and see a window open and then i see a naked little jasper streaking through the back yard being chased by the dogs!!

splashing through the wet grass and having the time of her life just shrieking with naked glee…

stop.   my.  heart.

i gave her my best “you are about to soooooo get it, little girl” growl and ran out to the backyard to grab the escapee and give her Something To Think About…

there were tears and unhappiness and time out and “do you understands” galore…  need i mention all the scary things that go through my mind at the thought of her being getting outside randomly and without us knowing?  i mean, how long before she can open the fence gates and go into the front yard where the rest of the world awaits?????!!!!!

i think that by the time i took these pictures, she had already learned her lesson and knows that jasper DOES NOT climb out the windows…  ever…

well, the dinosaur probably talked her into it…

whhhhaaaatttt?  you say?  did she say dinosaur?  yah, i did…  ‘cuz, yeah, she seems to have an invisible…  pet?  friend?  i am leaning towards the pretend pet since it is apparently a dinosaur…  a.   dinosaur

some overheard bits of conversation between jasper lilith and the, um, dinosaur:

“hi, dinosar!!!  mama, need to feed dinosar!!!”

“oh, dinosar!!  hungwe?  heuh some eastuh candy!!”  “take little bite, ok?  i shauh with you!”

“mama!!!  dinosar wants blanket!!  dinosar take nap!!”

“by cayful, dinosar!!  ok?  beeeee cayful…”

“bad dinosar!!!  mom-mom, dinosar bite my bum! “

“pouh, dinosar!!  did you get spoon?” (as in The Spoon that she gets popped with sometimes when she is really In Trouble, yeah, that spoon)…

“did you fall down, dinosar?  oh, pouh dinosar…  need ban-aid?  i get one!”

“mama, dinosar needs come inside now!!  ok?  i let dinosar in…” (and this is where the opening and the closing of the windows comes into play)…

i tell you that dinosar is bad news…

free bird…

first jasper lilith spun in circles with her arms held out squealing, “im buttuhfly! im buttuhfly!”

(no picture of that…)

but then jasper was surfing the wind on her daddies shoulders and i did get a picture of her enjoying the sensation…

“i flying, daddy!  i flying, mama!  i flying like buwd!”

hey, that fishing rig really does work!

and we have a fish!!  jon finally got a fish – a white bass, to be exact…

jon went fishing at lake arlington early this morning and came back with a fish!

after some begging and pleading on my part, jon less than graciously gave in and scaled/gutted the fish outside…

it was a close call but thanks, love, for leaving my kitchen unscaled (those pesky things go everywhere!)…

jasper was pretty impressed with the fish and wanted to watch the process step by step…

plus she wanted to show her daddy her “eastuh candy”...  (she gets her easter basket and 2 pieces of candy from it once a day but she loves to carry it around for as long as i will let her)…

she was pretty interested and not at all disgusted or ickified out by the dead fish or all the red, gooey guts…

girl after my own heart 🙂

however, she didn’t really want to touch the fish – she was quite fine with just watching the goings-on 🙂

but we finally talked her into touching it and here is the smile that resulted from feeling the fish 🙂

yay for jasper lilith!  she touched the fish!
