cookie town!

that’s right – we went to town on these cookies!   we owned these gingerbread cookies – the kiddos taught them who was boss.  we smothered them in candy and icing and then we ate them…  can’t get any more boss than that.

jasper and duncan in the process of showing those gingerbread cookies exactly who was boss.

so heather and i decided that this holiday season wouldn’t be complete without a gingerbread cookie explosion!  we all contributed:  jon made the gingerbread dough (thanks, love!), heather contributed the decorations and i made the icing.

of course, just as many candy decorations made it into the hungry mouths of the two Ravenous Beasts as they ended up on cookies but that’s kind of part of the whole experience, isn’t it?

at least, that’s what i told myself as i watched jasper munch on sprinkles.

needless to say, jasper and duncan were both intent of overloading each one of their gingerbread cookies.

a naked cookie is about to become a not-so-naked cookie.

and i believe this gingerbread man is about to be devoured?  is that is what is going here?

here is duncan’s haul of overloaded goodness!  wowza.

and here is jasper’s haul of unrelenting candy-covered gingerbreadedness.

just one gingerbread cookie is enough to induce a tummy ache!

‘cuz our two kiddos are boss, y’all.

total carnage.

there was our slightly nibbled on but still in one piece Gingerbread House.

then there was The Knife.

with The Knife came A Jon.

and then there was utter mayhem.

before jasper and i could do anything but drop our jaws to the ground, jon whacked our Gingerbread House to pieces!

with The Knife!  there was gingerbread dust everywhere and little red & green candy balls bouncing like pinballs across the counter!

it was a big knife and jon was…  enthusiastic.

jasper couldn’t decide whether she was horrified or thrilled.

i couldn’t decide whether i found it hilarious or just really messy.

and jon?  well, he couldn’t decide whose face was stuck in the funnier-looking expression.

he eventually decided that i won that round.

i’m still trying to decide if “winning” was really the word he should have used.

then we ate it.

well, not all of it….  i did mention how hard that gingerbread was, didn’t i?

two days later.

yep, the gingerbread house was safe for two whole days.

then we ate it.

well, kind of…  that gingerbread is really hard!

so we all ate the corners off and put it down to attack another day.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

well, jasper chewed on her corner more than she bit it off but eventually, she got it.

oh, she got it, all right!

and now we have a partially eaten gingerbread house.

i give it two more days.

we will eat you…

oh, yes, you gingerbread house, you…  we will eat you…  soon.

you may consider the house warned.

jasper lilith is intent on these tiny, little candy balls that keep rolling off the counter and on to the floor and under the couch or under the table.

our edible house in progress!

The Gingerbread House and The Hand.

there is probably a kid’s book named that exact title somewhere out there.

happy times!

“momma, i might need some help here!”

but she didn’t – she managed to carry it to her daddy so he could properly admire it!

but first, she stops to take the balloon string in her mouth…  with her tongue…  apparently, it was an important part of taking the gingerbread house to daddy.

yep.

of course, once jon sees the house, he takes sadistic pleasure in threatening to Eat The House!

(when jasper saw jon pretend to take a bite, she shouts, “daddy, don’t ingest the house!”)

but never fear, jasper and i were victorious in our fight and we saved the gingerbread house from certain destruction!

for two whole days anyway.

rainbows and cupcakes.

one of jasper’s “best friends” is a girl named skylar and boy, do they make a team!

it was skylar’s birthday last week and her party was this past saturday – jon was good enough to take plenty of pictures for me!

(the momma’s do love The Jon, he is a Favorite of them in the mornings at school, at girl scouts and at birthday parties!  it’s really cute to watch.)

face painting!

it’s always a hit with kiddos this age and jasper is no exception!

girls and their self-decorated cupcakes.  gotta luv ’em!

also, it totally makes me want a cupcake.

man, they look like they are planning something to me.

they gotz plans!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

maybe plans to run?

sure…  running.  is.  good.

and so is taking a breather 🙂

jasper has a great time with her girlfriends, jon had a great time with the moms (you know you did, babe!) and me?

well, i am still wondering where my cupcake is.

just keep goin’… just keep goin’…

jon and i ran a 1/2 marathon the other morning!

and as that woman on tv said the other day, it was “The Bomb-Dot-Com”.

you read that right.  i said it.

here we are in the corral waiting for the rain to start and the gun to go off!

it was early, it was low 30’s and, yep,  it rained on us the entire time.  i don’t mean sprinkled either, i mean a full-out, steady rain.

in fact, i wondered fairly early on if many of the runners were going to hit new PR’s simply because they ran faster to get out of the rain!

oh, but, no lie…  it was awesome!

and here we are afterward!  we finished the 13.1 miles in 1 hour and 50 minutes – not a bad time at all.

and afterward?  we were wet, shiveringly cold and eager to see the jaspanator!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

and this is what she looked like when we found jasper and mom….  turns out she was wet, cold and hungry too!

grumpy and all bundled up in one of mom’s ski jackets!  a happy camper, she was not 🙂

mom came in to dallas for the night to go to the expo and watch jasper as we ran so we had dropped her off saturday night…  after we fed her some of our ever-present-after-the-race bagels, she brightened up a bit…  we changed into dry clothes and headed off in search of FOOD!

after eating the Most Delicious Banana Belgian Waffle ever, mom and the hyams co. split ways and we headed back home to take hot baths, moan a bit and relish the experience.

and by “relish the experience”, i mean break it down into tiny little bites, over and over, critique and review and discuss how we could have done better, ran faster, worked harder and, yep, talk about how we are going to train for the full marathon next year.

personally, i voted for NO RAIN.

wait! maybe? future architect?

although jaz is still extremely consistent in wanting to be a veterinarian…  so probably  not…  but maybe…

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

she certainly had a good time with the tinker toys and it’s always a kick to build something taller than you are!

scratch the architect.   scratch the veterinarian.  i see that we have a comedian in the house.

nope, i was just informed that she was being a vampire when i took this picture.  oh, dear.
